Prince Edward Island - PEI

Location

Prince Edward Island is in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, off the Atlantic Coast of the Canada. One of the four Atlantic Provinces, the Island is separated from the mainland by the Northumberland Strait. PEI can be reached by Confederation Bridge (Live Bridge Cam) or by travelling the ferry.

PEI is a travel destination for many Canadians living in Central Canada and the Northern United States. It is a quaint, quiet and safe place, with beaches, golf, culture, history and natural beauty. The Island can be toured by vehicle at a leisurely pace without worry. The people of PEI are extremely friendly and provide assistance and information freely.

Population

Prince Edward Island has a population of about 137,244 (1999 est). Government of PEI. Charlottetown is the capital of PEI with a population of about 32,000.

Attractions

The natural beauty of the farmland combine with the lighthouses and coastal waters to provide any photographer or scenery lover scenes of exception! This alone makes Prince Edward Island a must visit on any and every East Coast trip.

Motorcycling in PEI is a must. It is a great ride. I felt safe and happy to ride on what were excellent highways and paved roads. You can't miss riding the bridge! What an awesome structure! Only one of the many reasons to ride the Maritimes.

History

The Island was discovered by Jacques Cartier in 1534.
